Dante Alighieri Traditional Theatre 2011/2012
Curiosity about new works, interest in new talents, quest for quality: these are the hallmarks of the new Opera and Dance season of the Alighieri Theatre which has set its sights on the rediscovery of the best stage scenes of recent decades, such as that of L’occasione fa il ladro, the comic opera by Rossini reinterpreted with the brilliant directing of the great Jean-Pierre Ponnelle by the young people of the Accademia della Scala; and the historic staging of Haendel's Rinaldo with the unmistakeable touch of the internationally appreciated Pier Luigi Pizzi, here interpreted by the Accademia Bizantina directed by Ottavio Dantone. Then there will be the new productions of Puccini's La bohème and the Threepenny Opera by Kurt Weill interpreted by Massimo Ranieri among others, and a return to the Little Sweep by Benjamin Britten with “virtual” scenes by Ezio Antonelli.
In the sphere of dance the folkloristic echoes of the acrobatic Sukhishvili of the Georgian Ballet intermingle with the classic movements of the Bayadère of the National Slovakian Ballet, with the modern choreographic style of David Parson and his company from New York and Mauro Bigonzetti's experimental approach, with Aterballetto, to Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. Lastly Virgilio Sieni will give an improvised performance of Bach's Goldberg Variations.
