The museum has been re-located in the former convent of St. Domenico dating back to about 1250, and now hosting the Civic Museum of San Domenico.
Founded in 1875, the museum houses collections of natural science, geology, archaeology, entomology, ornithology, malacology and botany. Worth special mention is the section dedicated to Giuseppe Scarabelli, who was the first to study prehistory in Italy and the geology of Apennine hills. The museum comprises rocks, fossils and discoveries collected by Scarabelli.
