This home greatly affected the childhood of Giovanni Pascoli, who lived here until he was seven. The memories of the serene period spent in San Mauro are evoked in many poems with great love and nostalgia. Casa Pascoli was severely damaged during World War II but was later restored to its original structure. The only room which has remained intact and looks exactly as it was at the time of the poet's childhood is the kitchen. Another room on the ground floor and one on the first floor are used as venue for photo and documentary exhibitions. In the poet's bedroom on the first floor you can also see his ancient wooden cradle, the baptism certificates of Pascoli's brothers, letters addressed to his local friend Pietro Guidi (Pirozz) and the signatures of famous visitors. Opposite the bedroom there is the study that Pascoli had in Bologna when he succeeded Carducci as university professor of Italian Literature. Here you can see valuable period documents, including the first editions of Pascoli's works with his autograph dedication and his Italian vocabularies.
