Montecuccoli Castle is located 3km far away from Pavullo; it is easy to reach taking Street "Statale 12" Abetone Brennero. The Castle and the medieval suburb below are located on a haughtiness which dominates Scoltenna Valley. In particular, from the Castle it is possible to enjoy a widest and beautiful view from Bologna to Reggio Appennines. The historical function of the Castle was to be the landmark of the social, religious and civil life together with its first function of defence. In this castle in 1609 was born Raimondo Montecuccoli: he had Roman Empire troops at his disposal and defeated Turkish in Hungary in 1664. Actually it is possible to visit the 8 restored rooms where is located a permanent exhibition (Il Paese Ritrovato) of the local painter Gino Covili.
