It's not easy to determine the period of construction of the Old Bridge, connecting Bobbio to the right bank of the river Trebbia, though there are elements suggesting it was precolumban. In effect, several activities used to be carried out on that bank of the river, among them the salines of the Longobardic leader Sundrarit and rio Gambados furnace. The stone bridge is also known as Crook-backed for its 11 irregular arcades, or as Devil Bridge, due to a legend, according to which it was built by demons in one only night in exchange for the soul of the first living being who would cross it.
