14 March 2014 – This week, the Emilia Romagna Region Tourist Board, in association with the region' s Art Cities, hosted the Association of British Travel Organisers to Italy (ABTOI) for their annual conference and AGM.
It was the first time this event had been held outside the UK and almost 50 delegates had the opportunity to visit Bologna and Ferrara.
In addition to a full programme of business seminars and discussions, ranging in topic from the new package travel directives, to how to prepare for smart phone users as well as how to ensure your story is top of the editor's pile, delegates also had the chance to travel to the prestigious Ferrara Castle for a networking event with key ground operators, agents and hoteliers from the Emilia Romagna area.
Delegates also enjoyed guided tours of the Arts Cities of Bologna and Ferrara, as well as the chance to experience the excellent local cuisine.
Graziano Prantoni, President of the Art Cities of Emilia Romagna association, commented, "We were delighted to have the opportunity to welcome so many of the UK’s leading Italian holiday providers to Emilia Romagna, and show them how much this undiscovered region has to offer - from arts, culture and history to great food, motor cars and fashion. We were honoured to be chosen as the first region of Italy to host the ABTOI Summit and, with such great feedback from the ABTOI members, hope the experience has inspired more of them to sell Emilia Romagna."
The COO of ABTOI, Carolyn Spinks, was also delighted with the event, commenting, "The Regional Tourist Board of Emilia Romagna has shown us great support and commitment. We are sure our members will return the compliment because this wonderful region is highly under rated. The feedback from the UK tour operators is encouraging"
